Hofitol
® (Chopytol®) is a herbal preparation based on artichoke leaves. Used for stagnation of bile in the gallbladder and bile ducts, diseases of the liver and gallbladder.

Description
Dark brown opaque solution with a slight yellowish precipitate. There may be some slight sediment during storage.

Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics The pharmacological effect of the drug is due to the complex of biologically active substances included in the field artichoke. The drug has a choleretic effect and increases diuresis. Pharmacokinetics No data available. Indications for use Traditionally used to alleviate functional digestive disorders and improve the excretory function of the kidneys.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as to plants of the aster family (Asteraceae), cholelithiasis, biliary tract obstruction, acute diseases of the liver, kidneys, biliary and urinary tracts, severe hepatocellular insufficiency.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
It is possible to use the drug Hofitol during pregnancy and during breastfeeding according to indications.
Directions for use and doses
For oral administration. Adults: 2.5-5.0 ml of solution (1/2-1 teaspoon) with a small amount of water orally 3 times a day before meals or if functional disorders occur. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks. Children: 0-12 months 0.3-0.5 ml (5-10 drops), 1-5 years 0.5-1 ml (10-20 drops), 6-12 years 2-3 ml (1/2 teaspoon), over 12 years old - 1 teaspoon 3 times a day.
Special instructions and precautions
Alcoholic beverages should be avoided. The drug contains 3.23 vol. % ethanol, that is, 130 mg per single dose (5 ml), which is equal to 3.23 ml of beer, 1.35 ml of wine per dose. Harmful for persons with alcoholism. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, children and high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease and epilepsy should be considered. If symptoms of the disease persist or worsen while taking the drug, you should stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.
Interaction with other drugs
Interactions associated with the presence of ethyl alcohol (0.13 g per teaspoon): drugs that cause a disulfiram-like reaction (feeling of heat, redness of the skin, vomiting, tachycardia): disulfiram, cefamandole, cefoperazone, latamoxef (antibacterial agents - cephalosporins ), chloramphenicol (antibacterial agent), chlorpropamide, glibenclamide, glipizide, tolbutamide (antidiabetic agents, sulfonylurea derivatives), griseofulvin (antifungal agent), nitro-5-imidazole derivatives (metronidazole, ornidazole, tinidazole), ketoconazole, procarbazine (cytostatic agent) ; drugs that inhibit the functions of the central nervous system. If you are taking other medications at the same time, you should consult your doctor.
Side effect
Allergic reactions are possible; with prolonged use of the drug in high doses, diarrhea may develop. If adverse reactions occur, including those not listed in this instruction, you must stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.
Overdose
Side effects may increase. If symptoms of overdose develop, it is recommended to consult a doctor. Treatment is symptomatic. Effect on the ability to drive a car and operate machinery Due to the ethyl alcohol content, taking the drug may cause impairment of attention and affect the ability to drive a car or operate machinery.

Pharmacokinetics
The effect of the drug Hofitol is the combined effect of its components, so kinetic observations are not possible; Collectively, the components cannot be traced using markers or bioassays. For the same reason, it is impossible to detect drug metabolites.
Indications for use
As part of complex therapy:
- dyskinesia of the biliary tract of the hypokinetic type;
- chronic non-calculous cholecystitis;
- chronic hepatitis;
- cirrhosis of the liver;
- chronic nephritis;
- chronic renal failure.
Contraindications
- cholelithiasis;
- obstruction of the bile ducts;
- acute diseases of the liver, kidneys, biliary and urinary tracts;

- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Adults are prescribed 2-3 tablets. or 2.5-5 ml of solution for oral administration 3 times a day before meals. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.
Children over 6 years old are prescribed 1-2 tablets. 3 times/day before meals. The oral solution, depending on age, is prescribed in a dose ranging from 1/4 to 1/2 of the dose used in adults. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

Action
Herbal preparation. The pharmacological effect of the drug is due to the complex of biologically active substances contained in the leaves of the field artichoke. Cynarin in combination with phenolic acids has a choleretic and hepatoprotective effect. Ascorbic acid, carotene, vitamins B1 and B2, and inulin contained in artichokes help normalize metabolic processes.
It also has a diuretic effect and enhances the excretion of urea.
Side effects
From the digestive system: diarrhea may develop with prolonged use of the drug in high doses.
Other: allergic reactions.
Interaction
The use of Hofitol during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) is possible only under the supervision of a physician.
Overdose
Symptoms: possible increased side effects.
