PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

A remedy used for diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx. The effect of the drug is due to three active ingredients.

Antibacterial and antifungal activity

Hexetidine (INN - hexetidinum) exhibits antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative strains of microorganisms - both aerobes and anaerobes. It should be noted that it acts mainly bacteriostatically on strains of aerobic microorganisms; the bactericidal effect is weak. Hexetidine has a pronounced bactericidal effect on strains of anaerobic microorganisms. The mechanism of action is based on the competitive replacement of thiamine (the structure of hexetidine is similar to the structure of thiamine), which is necessary for the growth of microorganisms.

Anti-inflammatory activity

Choline salicylate is used due to its analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Analgesic activity

Chlorobutanol is used in otolaryngological (nasal drops, rinses) and dental practice (applications and irrigations) mainly as an anesthetic. Classically used as an anesthetic.

The active substances are fixed on the oral mucosa, from where they are gradually released.

APPLICATION

Topically for irrigation and rinsing of the mouth and pharynx.

Givalex spray:

  • adults and children over 15 years of age - 1 spray 4-6 times a day;
  • children aged 12 to 15 years - 1 spray 2-3 times a day.

Givalex solution:

For one mouth rinse for adults and children over 6 years of age: place the drug in a measuring cup to the 10 ml mark and add warm water to the 50 ml mark or dissolve 2 teaspoons of the drug in ¼ glass of warm water. Do not swallow. The course of treatment is 5 days.

Analogs

There are many analogues of this drug, but you should not make an independent decision about a replacement. A doctor’s advice in this matter will not be superfluous.

Substitutes for Givalex:

  1. Stopangin. This antiseptic is also available in the form of a spray and rinse solution. Can be used by children from 8 years of age.
  2. Inhalipt is available in the form of a spray. The effect of treatment with this drug is much lower, due to the fact that the active substance included in Ingalipt (sulfanilamide) belongs to the 1st generation of antibiotics.
  3. Strepsils is a local antiseptic. Oral lozenges. Can be used during pregnancy and lactation.
  4. Falimint is an antiseptic drug produced in the form of lozenges. Well tolerated by patients of all ages. Recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  5. Angilex is a spray for topical use for irrigation of the oral cavity.
  6. Hepilor is an analgesic and antiseptic. Effective for the treatment of sore throat, pharyngitis, stomatitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis. Often prescribed as a hygienic oral care product.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

When using Givalex, do not swallow and avoid contact with eyes as it contains ethanol.

Long-term use is not recommended as the natural microbial balance of the mouth and throat may be altered and there is a risk of bacterial and fungal spread.

If general clinical signs of a bacterial infection occur, general antibacterial therapy should be provided.

If symptoms persist for more than 5 days and/or elevated body temperature, it is necessary to reconsider treatment tactics.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding. During pregnancy and lactation, the drug is used only as prescribed by a doctor and only when the benefit of its use for the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus.

Children. The drug should not be used in children under 6 years of age (solution) and under 12 years of age (spray).

The ability to influence reaction speed when driving vehicles and working with other mechanisms. Unknown.

Interaction with other drugs

Doctors do not recommend using Givalex together with similar topical antiseptic drugs. This may lead to increased irritation of the oral mucosa.

If the disease is complex, Givalex can be combined with antibacterial drugs in the form of tablets and injections. Due to the low percentage of absorption of the substance and the low concentration of its components in the blood plasma, this medicine combines well with other drugs.

Cases of allergic reactions are very rare. This should serve as a reason to cancel this drug.

The mechanism of action and therapeutic effects of the drug are based on the pharmacological properties of the active components included in its composition: Hexetidine is an antibacterial drug, the mechanism of action of which is based on the ability of the hexetidine molecule to competitively replace thiamine, as a result of which bacterial growth is impaired.
