Contractubex is an effective drug with a combined pharmacological effect. Intended for the treatment of a wide range of diseases of the skin, joints and the prevention of postoperative complications. The drug has contraindications and side effects, so it is recommended to take it as directed by a specialist.
Composition, dosage form
In the pharmaceutical industry, Contractubex is produced in the form of an ointment: a gel-like viscous substance of light brown color with a distinct onion aroma. The product is packaged in metal tubes of 20 and 50 g.
The medicinal gel contains 3 active compounds:
- onion extract: 10%;
- heparin - a restorative and anti-inflammatory substance: 5000 IU per 100 g of drug weight;
- allantoin - regenerating component: 1%.
In addition to them, the ointment contains distilled water, stabilizers and perfume.
Can it be used during pregnancy and lactation?
Leniment is applied topically, the active and auxiliary components do not penetrate the bloodstream and do not have a comprehensive effect on the entire body as a whole. Therefore, the period of bearing a child is not a contraindication to the use of the product.
On the contrary, the ointment helps fight stretch marks in the chest and abdomen.
Since the content of medicinal substances is not observed in breast milk, the medicine is widely prescribed to nursing mothers. However, you should consult your doctor about the advisability of use, who will determine the duration of the course and dosage.
pharmachologic effect
The complex of biologically active ingredients of the drug provides an antiproliferative effect, slows down the growth of coarse scar fibers, and reduces the intensity of inflammation in areas of skin damage.
Onion extract has bactericidal properties, prevents the development of suppuration, stops allergic reactions, blocks the release of inflammatory mediators, and inhibits the processes of mitosis and division of connective tissue cells. Thanks to this, the developing scars do not grow excessively.
Heparin acts on the skin, accelerating the healing of damage:
- eliminates swelling;
- reduces pain;
- inhibits the division of scar tissue cells;
- improves microcirculation and blood circulation;
- helps reduce hyperemia and hyperthermia at the site of inflammation.
The substance helps saturate the deep layers of the dermis with moisture, which improves collagen synthesis and prevents the compaction of the scar structure. This provides damaged areas of the skin with a cosmetic effect: normal elasticity, smoothing the relief of scars.
Allantoin promotes epithelization of wounds and prevents secondary infections. The substance has pronounced keratolytic properties:
- improves trophism;
- softens the skin structure;
- improves the flow of water and nutrition into cells;
- eliminates itching, burning and pain.
The active components of Contractubex penetrate the scar tissue within 3–4 hours after application. The drug is absorbed into the systemic circulation in small quantities.
Side effects
Contractubex ointment is well tolerated. Side effects rarely occur with its use. However, for individuals the following may occur:
- Pain at the site of application of the drug.
- Allergic reactions, accompanied by itching, rashes, hyperemia, burning. There may be hives.
- Erythema.
- Swelling of soft tissues.
- Signs of hypersensitivity.
- Mild pustular formations on the skin.
Indications
Therapeutic ointment is prescribed:
- for keloid, atrophic and hypertrophic scars;
- for the treatment of scars after boils, moles and acne;
- to restore deformed areas of skin after burns;
- in the complex treatment of ankylosis and contractures of articular structures;
- with Dupuytren's contracture;
- to eliminate and prevent the appearance of traumatic skin defects.
Can Contractubex be used by children and pregnant women?
As of 2021, the drug is considered safe for children aged 2 years and older. For children from one to 2 years of age, Contractubex is used only as directed and under the supervision of doctors. Medicine is not prescribed until one year of age.
To date, there is no accurate data confirming the safety of the use of antiproliferative drugs for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Since scar removal is not a life-saving therapy, treatment may be delayed until after breastfeeding.
Application
A small amount of ointment is rubbed into the affected areas until completely absorbed. The procedure is repeated 2-3 times a day. At the same time, it is recommended to treat no more than 20 cm² of skin, applying the product in a layer of about 3–5 mm.
When treating fresh scars, the course of treatment lasts up to 4 weeks. Therapy of old compacted defects requires the use of ointment for up to six months daily. Treatment of contractures can take up to 1 year.
To enhance the effectiveness of the ointment, it is recommended to cover the skin with a moisture-proof bandage after application. The best results can be achieved by leaving the applications on all night.
During the period of use of the ointment, ultraviolet irradiation, rough physical impact, overheating or hypothermia of the skin should be avoided.
Simultaneous treatment of scars and injuries with Contractubex and other drugs for external use is allowed.
Contractubex - successful treatment of scars
Scarring? There's no reason to hide them
Sooner or later, many people have to deal with scars. Depending on the origin and severity, the scar can become a kind of “replaced” by connective tissue. Superficial damage to the epidermis heals without scar formation, but when the dermis is damaged, a scar always forms.
Scars differ from the surrounding skin in elasticity and appearance.
Scar tissue is incomparable to normal skin, as it does not lead to the restoration of hair follicles, sebaceous and sweat glands.
It contains less elastic fibers, which can cause the scar to become tighter and also shrink, causing the scar to become tight or even restrict movement. Scar tissue contains less water and therefore tends to be less firm and smooth compared to normal skin. When scar tissue forms, small blood vessels form, which are the cause of the red color of fresh scars. As the scar forms, the red color will gradually fade. Because scar tissue does not have pigments like healthy skin, the scar will be lighter than the surrounding skin.
The wound healing process plays an important role in scar formation. If an infection develops during the healing process or the wound does not heal properly, the scar may become wide, hard, and tight.
Surgical wounds that are narrow with smooth edges heal well and usually heal quickly and easily. The scar may become very small, thin and barely noticeable.
Problematic scars
Hypertrophic scars
Hypertrophic scars form soon after the wound heals due to excess production of connective tissue fibers. The scar is usually convex and higher than the level of the surrounding skin, but does not protrude beyond the edges of the primary skin injury. A hypertrophic scar is especially often formed in wounds that are not closed and not protected from external factors. These scars are also typical of infected wounds.
Keloid scars
Keloids tend to form for a long time after the wound has healed. This is due to the massive production of connective tissue fibers that continue to grow into the wound and into healthy skin. Keloids are especially common in girls and young women. Scars that form in areas of the body with high skin tension can also become keloids. Quite often, the likelihood of developing a keloid is inherited. Keloids are also about ten times more likely to form in people with colored skin than in people with white skin.
Contractubex® – Effective treatment from the very beginning
Once the wound has healed or the stitches have been removed, you can begin treatment with Contractubex® gel. The transparent gel contains active ingredients that support the healing process within the skin, regulate the production of scar tissue and thus have a positive effect on scar formation.
Contractubex® contains 3 active ingredients that complement each other:
1. Extractum cepae (special onion extract) - has anti-inflammatory and bactericidal properties and prevents excessive formation of scar tissue
2. Heparin - softens the structure of tissues, has an anti-inflammatory and decongestant effect, supports cells and tissue regeneration, is able to bind water in scar tissue
3. Allantoin - stimulates wound healing and has a softening effect, promotes penetration through the skin and relieves itching, which often occurs when a scar forms
Contractubex® has a triple effect, preventing excessive scar tissue formation, reducing redness, itching and tightness, and making the scar smoother and more elastic. For many years, Contractubex® has been recognized as a very effective treatment for scars. Visual and functional (eg mobility-related) results can be achieved with patience and proper treatment.
How to use Contractubex®?
The sooner you start treating scars, the higher the chances of a positive effect. Contractubex® can be used as soon as the wound has healed and/or the sutures have been removed. The clear gel is easy and safe to apply. Contractubex® gel should be applied three times a day with a light massage, starting from the center of the scar to its outer edges. Contractubex® forms a discrete film that protects sensitive scar tissue.
It takes time for a good effect. After about 4 weeks, there is a decrease in the redness of the scar, and after two months, the scar tissue gradually becomes softer, more elastic and smooth.
Is it possible to treat old scars?
Yes, even scars that are a year or more old can and should be treated. Often mature scar tissue hardens and its color does not blend in with the surrounding skin. In these cases, Contractubex® should be used 1 to 3 times a day as a massage for at least 6 months. Contractubex® reduces scar height and redness, smoothes the tissue so that your scar becomes less noticeable.
Contractubex® can be used after:
- abrasions, cuts and lacerations
- operations
- burns
- laser treatment (eg tattoo removal)
Use in children
Contractubex® can be used in children with trauma to prevent the development of disfiguring scars.
Gel bandage
For large scars, the use of gel in the form of dressings is recommended. Soften the scar tissue first with a warm, moist compress. Then apply Contractubex® and gently massage the gel onto the scar. Then cover the area with thin kitchen foil, place a bandage over it and simply leave it overnight.
How to care for scars?
Avoid extreme temperatures and cold. Fresh scars are especially sensitive. For six months to a year, you should use sun protection when exposed to intense sunlight or ultraviolet radiation. You should avoid saunas as well as intense exposure to cold. All these influences can negatively affect the regeneration process.
Don't wear tight clothes. Avoid wearing tight clothing that may touch or rub against your scar. Scar tissue is more sensitive than healthy skin. It may react to such irritations with redness and thickening.
Take care of scars in the joint area. Scars located near bones or joints must be especially protected. Be careful not to damage the scar tissue (eg with shoes). Fresh scars are easily damaged when playing sports. The healing process can be disrupted when scar tissue is subjected to physical stress.
For scars on arms, elbows, legs, etc. It is recommended to use baths. Add Contractubex® to warm water and soak the tripe for an extended period of time.
With some scars you will see results within a short time. But with patience and intensive treatment, it is very likely that the condition of your scar will improve significantly.
