Snoop
Snoop (INN xylometazoline) is a vasoconstrictor drug for the treatment of the common cold from the German pharmaceutical company STADA. The uniqueness of the drug lies in the fact that sea water is introduced into its composition as an auxiliary agent. Xylometazoline, the active ingredient of the drug, has been used in ENT practice for a long time and is a “resident” of the list of vital and essential drugs. For rhinitis and sinusitis, it significantly facilitates nasal breathing by restoring normal patency of the nasal passages, reducing the lumen of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, and relieving swelling. An important property of xylometazoline is its speed of action: it begins to exhibit therapeutic activity almost immediately after installation in the nasal cavity and retains its pharmacological effect for several hours. The favorable safety profile of the substance allows the drug to be used in pediatric practice and prescribed to children under two years of age. This is very important because... in childhood, the formation of the facial skeleton and the bone base of the chest cavity occurs, and prolonged disruption of nasal breathing can have a negative impact on this process. But it’s unlikely that Snoop would be so in demand today (after all, there are plenty of xylometazoline-based drugs on the domestic market) if the second component – purified seawater from the Atlantic Ocean – was not included in its composition. It effectively cleanses the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity from various types of contaminants - dust particles, allergens, viruses, bacteria, promotes the thinning and removal of mucus, and normalizes the process of its secretion by goblet cells.
The microelements included in sea water are also very important: magnesium and calcium improve the functional state of microcilia and have a regenerative effect, selenium and zinc strengthen local immunity, increase the resistance of the mucous membrane to damaging factors (including bacterial and viral pathogens), sodium chloride eliminates the symptoms of inflammation - swelling and hyperemia, and also acts as an antiseptic. Both components of the drug complement each other and potentiate each other’s action. Such a successful combination eliminates the need to prescribe several medications at once (polypharmacy, especially in pediatric practice, is one of the most pressing problems of modern medicine). The duration of action of the drug – up to 8 hours – allows you to reduce the frequency of its administration to 2-3 times a day. In addition, Snoop is devoid of unwanted side effects characteristic of monocongestants - drying and irritation of the nasal mucosa. Snoop is available in the form of a spray, which is very convenient, because... allows you to quickly install the drug into the nasal cavity without the need to take a supine position. The recommended duration of pharmacotherapy is 1-2 weeks. The drug should not be used for a long period of time, for example, for chronic sinusitis and rhinitis.
