Permethrin-Pharma

How to use Permethrin

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has recommended. If you have any doubts about taking this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

To open a tube, remove the cap from the tube, twist it and place it on the threaded end of the tube, then twist it to pierce the seal.

Apply the cream to clean, dry, cooled skin. Do not take a hot bath or shower immediately before applying the cream.

Apply a small amount of cream in a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin (see “How and when to take Permethrin cream”).

Treatment of scabies

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: apply up to 30 g of cream (corresponding to 60% of the cream in the tube).

Children aged 6 to 12 years: apply up to 15 g of cream (corresponding to 30% of the cream in the tube).

Children aged 2 months to 5 years: apply up to 7.5 g of cream (corresponding to 15% of the cream in the tube).

Newborns and children under 2 months of age: there is insufficient experience with the use of the drug in this age group and therefore the required dose has not been developed. Accordingly, the use of the cream is not recommended in patients of this age group.

The above dosing information is a guideline only. The dose may be adjusted according to the individual patient's needs and body surface area. For example, sometimes some adult patients require more cream.

Treatment of lice pubis

Adults over 18 years of age: apply up to 30 g of cream (corresponding to 60% of the cream in the tube).

How and when to use Permethrin cream

Permethrin is for use on the skin only.

Avoid contact with eyes or contact with mucous membranes (nasopharynx, genitals) or open wounds. In case of accidental contact with these surfaces, rinse them thoroughly with water.

Adults should apply the cream to the entire body, including the neck, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. You do not need to apply it to the head and face if these areas are not affected by scabies (scabies mites).

When applying the cream to the areas between the fingers and toes (also under the fingernails and toenails), wrists, elbows, armpits, genitals and buttocks, they must be carefully prepared.

Treatment of lice pubis in adults: any facial hair (beard, mustache) and eyelashes should be checked for lice and nits. The cream should be applied to the facial hair, avoiding contact with the eyes. If lice or nits are found on eyelashes, they should be carefully removed using tweezers. The cream should not be applied to eyelashes because it may cause mild eye irritation.

Children: Children should apply the cream evenly over the entire body, including the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, neck, face, ears and scalp. The skin around the mouth (because the cream can get into the mouth) and eyes should be protected from application.

Do not allow your child to lick the cream from his hands. If necessary, children should wear gloves during treatment.

There is insufficient experience with the use of the drug in infants and young children. Therefore, treatment of children under 23 months of age should be carried out only under the close supervision of a physician.

Elderly: Elderly patients (over 65 years of age) should apply the cream in the same way as adult patients, but in addition, the cream should also be applied to the face, ears and scalp. Care should be taken to avoid getting the cream on the skin around the eyes.

How long to use Permethrin cream

A single application of Permethrin is usually sufficient. Leave the applied cream on the skin for at least eight hours, for example overnight. Avoid bathing, showering, or washing during this period as this may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. If you still need to wash your hands during the eight-hour period of applying the cream, then after washing you will need to reapply the cream to your hands and wrist area. If the cream is washed off from other areas of the skin, they must also be re-treated with cream (buttocks, external genitalia).

After eight hours, take a shower or wash your skin with soap and water.

As long as the instructions for use are followed, one application is usually sufficient for successful treatment. However, in cases where the lesion persists or recurs, it may be necessary to repeat treatment after 14 days.

If you use more Permethrin than recommended

If you apply much more cream than recommended, you should wash your skin with warm water and soap.

If you continue to experience any signs of irritation, consult your doctor.

If the contents of the tube (cream) are swallowed by a child, seek immediate medical attention from a doctor or the nearest hospital emergency room.

Permethrin 0.5% spray d/nar. appl. 50g – Instructions

Dosage form and packaging

Spray 0.5%, 50 g in cylinders.

Compound

1 ml of solution contains: permethrin 5 mg.

Excipients: aethonium, benzalkonium chloride, ethanol (96%), purified water.

pharmachologic effect

Permethrin has anti-pediculosis, insecticidal, acaricidal effects. The action is due to a violation of the ion permeability of sodium channels and inhibition of the processes of polarization (repolarization) of the membrane of nerve cells of lice, fleas, mites (including scabies) and other ectoparasites of the arthropod family, which leads to a paralyzing effect.

Pharmacokinetics

When administered cutaneously, less than 2% of the permethrin dose is absorbed. It is characterized by high fat solubility, its toxicity is increased by organic solvents. Based on animal studies, permethrin binds to glucuronides, glycines, and sulfates in the liver. The half-life is several hours. Permethrin is rapidly hydrolyzed to inactive metabolites and is excreted primarily in the urine.

Indications for use

Pediculosis of the scalp, pediculosis pubis (including nits), scabies.

Directions for use and doses

The hair is generously moisturized with the preparation using a cotton swab, rubbing it into the hair roots. Typically, from 10 to 60 ml of the drug is consumed per person, depending on the thickness and length of the hair. After treatment, the head is covered with a scarf, and after 40 minutes the drug is washed off with warm running water and soap or shampoo. After washing, the hair is combed with a fine comb to remove dead insects.

Overdose

In case of ingestion, gastric lavage and symptomatic therapy are necessary.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

The use of Permethrin during pregnancy is possible if the expected effect of therapy exceeds the potential risk to the fetus. The drug is contraindicated during lactation.

If you are taking other medications at the same time or have concomitant diseases of the scalp, you must consult a doctor before starting treatment.
