St. John's wort contains useful substances such as:

  • Hypericin is a pigment that increases serotonin levels. Low levels of this hormone lead to depression and various sleep disorders.

In addition to increasing serotonin, hypericin also increases the level of dopamine , the anticipation hormone. Dopamine motivates us to do activities that we enjoy. A lack of this hormone leads to depression, and a significant deficiency of it even leads to Parkinson's disease ;

  • Amentoflavone is a unique flavonoid from St. John's wort. Amentoflavone increases the level of GABA , a substance responsible for our calmness and sound sleep. The higher the level of GABA, the less a person worries about all sorts of trifles.

In addition, amentoflavones in St. John's wort reduce pain sensitivity . Thanks to this property, the drug “St. John’s wort P” can be used as an anesthetic;

  • Hyperforin is a plant substance that increases serotonin levels in the brain. Hyperforin, like hypericin, maintains normal serotonin levels. All this provides a person with adequate healthy sleep, good mood and high motivation for activity;
  • Tannins . One of these substances that makes up St. John's wort is tannin . Tannin stimulates the activity of the nervous system. In other words, tannin makes nerves stronger, which increases a person’s resistance to stress. And people with strong nerves are less susceptible to depression and various sleep disorders;
  • Saponins are glycosides of St. John's wort that have an antidepressant effect. Saponins block substances that interfere with the production of serotonin. Thanks to this, serotonin stays in the brain longer, which eliminates the occurrence of depression;
  • Vitamin C in St. John's wort protects nerve cells from destructive stress. Vitamin C strengthens the membrane of nerve cells, making them more resistant to destruction. A sufficient amount of this vitamin in the body protects us from depression and reduces stress levels;
  • Vitamin E is a natural immune booster that is great for treating depressive disorders. The human immune system is inextricably linked with his mental state. A decrease in the body's protective functions significantly reduces stress resistance and contributes to the development of depression. Taking vitamin E as part of St. John's wort P strengthens the body's defenses, and at the same time protects a person from stress;
