Rogaine®
REGAIN® is intended for external use only.
Before starting treatment with REGAIN®, patients should undergo a general examination, including the collection and examination of a medical history. The doctor must make sure that the scalp is healthy.
Although the following effects have not been observed when REGAIN® is applied to the skin, minoxidil is absorbed through the skin in small quantities and therefore there is a risk of systemic side effects such as: water and salt retention, generalized and local edema, pericardial effusion , pericarditis, pericardial tamponade, tachycardia, angina pectoris, increased orthostatic hypotension caused by certain antihypertensive drugs, for example, guanethidine and its derivatives. Prescribing REGAIN® to patients with arterial hypertension receiving treatment with guanethidine or guanethidine derivatives, or minoxidil, is possible only under medical supervision (see section “Interaction with other drugs”
).
Patients should undergo periodic examinations to identify possible signs of systemic side effects of minoxidil. If systemic side effects occur, treatment should be discontinued. To treat edema and fluid retention in the body, diuretics can be prescribed if necessary. To eliminate tachycardia and angina pectoris, beta-blockers can be prescribed. Patients with a history of cardiovascular disease should be warned that treatment with REGAIN® may cause an exacerbation of these diseases.
If systemic side effects or severe skin reactions occur, patients should discontinue REGAIN® and consult a doctor.
The effect of REGAIN® in patients with impaired skin integrity and dermatoses of the scalp at the site of application of the drug is unknown.
The safety and effectiveness of REGAIN® for patients under 18 years of age and over 65 years of age has not been established.
REGAIN® contains ethyl alcohol, which can cause inflammation and irritation of the eyes. If the drug gets on sensitive surfaces (eyes, irritated skin, mucous membranes), it is necessary to rinse the affected area with plenty of cold water.
After starting to use REGAIN®, increased hair loss may occur. This effect is caused by the influence of minoxidil, which is expressed in stimulating the transition of hair from the resting phase (telogen) to the growth phase (anagen). Thus, old hair falls out and new hair grows in its place. A temporary increase in hair loss usually lasts for 2-6 weeks from the start of treatment and then decreases within two weeks.
Accidental ingestion of the solution can lead to serious consequences. The symptoms observed in this case mainly affect the cardiovascular system and include fluid retention, decreased blood pressure or tachycardia (see section "Overdose"
). Warn your patients to keep this drug, like other drugs, out of the reach of children.
If the medicine has become unusable or has expired, do not pour it into wastewater or throw it outside! Place the medication in a bag and place it in the trash. These measures will help protect the environment!
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Rogaine solution is a medicine used to treat thinning scalp hair ( baldness , alopecia ). The main effect of minoxidil is aimed at stimulating and activating hair growth in patients suffering from androgenetic alopecia .
When using the drug externally, signs of hair growth were observed after at least 4 months of use. The onset of scalp growth and the degree of its severity are quite variable and depend on the personal response of each patient to the treatment. Rogaine 5% solution has a more significant effect on hair growth than a 2% solution of this drug, which has been proven by the observed increase in the number of vellus hairs .
When treatment with Rogaine is discontinued, the appearance of new hair slows down until the process stops completely and over the course of 3-4 months brings the scalp to the level observed before the onset of problems with hair loss.
The true mechanism of action of minoxidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia is still unknown.
When applied externally to intact scalp, absorption of minoxidil remains low. On average, less than 1.5% (with variability - 0.3-4.5%) of the drug from its total used dose enters the systemic circulation. Application of 1 ml of a 5% solution of Regaine (50 mg minoxidil ) leads to the absorption of only 0.70 mg of the drug. The effect of skin pathologies on the absorption process of minoxidil has not been studied.
The profile of metabolic transformations of minoxidil , when applied externally, has not yet been thoroughly studied. It is known that the drug does not bind to plasma proteins and does not penetrate the BBB.
When you stop using Rogaine, about 95% of minoxidil in the systemic circulation is excreted within 4 days, mainly through glomerular filtration in the urine.
Instructions for use
Pack of Rogaine Foam with 3 aerosols.
Depending on the form of release of the drug Rogaine for hair, the instructions suggest different rules for use. If lotion is used, then to apply the required dose you need to press the sprayer 6 times. If you use foam, you should focus on the cap - half is equal to 1 ml. The maximum dosage of the product is 1 ml per day for women and 2 ml for men.
IMPORTANT! Rogaine should be used to treat not only the bald spot, but also areas located near its borders. This is necessary to prevent the spread of baldness, which is inevitable with this type of alopecia. First, the product is applied to the area with thinning hairs, and then distributed further beyond (1-2 cm).

The nozzle and method of applying lotion are selected based on the size of the problem area:
- Sprayer - for treating large bald patches. First, the cap and lid are removed, and then the sprayer is tightly screwed onto the bottle. Next, its end is directed to the middle of the desired area, and then the valve is pressed. The applied composition is evenly distributed over the skin with your fingers. Hands should be washed thoroughly after this.
- Extended spray nozzle – for small bald areas. The sprayer must be installed using the above method. Then an extended nozzle is attached to the sleeve. The drug must be applied in the same way as described in the previous paragraph.
- Applicator – for small bald spots. After removing the cap and lid, screw the applicator tightly. Next, the bottle is turned over vertically and a pressing movement is applied to it so that the solution in the required dosage flows into the nozzle chamber. The product level should reach the black mark. Then, using the nozzle, the desired areas of the head are massaged until the chamber is completely empty. After use, remember to close the bottle with the outer cap.
NOTE! The latest packages released may also include a large pipette attachment. She takes the drug in the required dosage and drips it onto problem areas, after which the solution is evenly distributed by hand.
An aerosol with foam is much easier to use than a bottle of lotion. Before applying the composition, you need to divide the bald areas into several areas. Then you should squeeze the foamy Rogaine into your palm, not exceeding the dosage, and apply it to the desired area.
Step by step process for applying Rogaine foam.
You will have to wait no longer than half an hour until the foam dries completely. The lotion dries in about 5-6 hours. Only after this time can it be washed off with shampoo selected for your hair type. During this time, the bulbs will have time to become saturated with the active substance.
ADVICE! Many people are interested in the question: can Rogaine be applied to wet hair? The answer is negative. It is allowed to wash your hair with shampoo before using the drug directly, but after that you must dry it thoroughly.

results
A noticeable effect appears with regular treatment of areas that have partially or completely lost hair. It will take 4 months before new hairs appear on the affected areas.
To consolidate the results, you will have to use Rogaine constantly. After 8–12 weeks after the end of the course, active hair growth slows down, and the skin has to be treated again. The breaks between four-month courses will be determined by the trichologist.
Helpful Tips:
- be sure to give your skin a rest. The presence of alcohol and continuous treatment of the epidermis often causes excessive dryness of the skin;
- between therapeutic courses, apply homemade masks made from natural ingredients to the epidermis for hair growth (avoid burning substances that irritate the skin);
- Rinsing the skin and strands with herbal infusions is effective. To combat alopecia, nettle, burdock and calamus root, and hop cones are suitable;
- use healthy oils: burdock, castor or a mixture of them. The components of medicinal products have a positive effect on the condition of hair follicles.

Side effects
Local side effects
Negative side effects observed during clinical studies of the effects of Rogaine were, as a rule, limited to the formation of dermatitis of the scalp. of dermatitis , characterized by peeling , redness and inflammation , was much less common .
Itching of the scalp , allergic contact dermatitis alopecia , folliculitis , seborrhea and unwanted hair growth were occasionally observed
During a comparative clinical study, a comparison of 2% and 5% solutions of minoxidil and placebo showed a more frequent development of dermatological reactions in the group using the 5% drug. The severity and nature of negative side effects in the groups using 2% and 5% minoxidil were almost comparable, although the incidence of side effects was higher in the latter group.
Systemic side effects (less common than local)
- Skin: swelling of the face , nonspecific reactions of allergic etiology (including the formation of a skin rash and the occurrence of urticaria ).
- Respiratory system: allergic rhinitis , shortness of breath .
- Nervous system: vertigo; headaches , neuritis , dizziness .
- Cardiovascular system: fluctuations , chest pain, rapid heartbeat , swelling , changes in heart rate .
A direct cause-and-effect relationship between the use of Rogaine solution and the formation of the above adverse reactions was monitored only for dermatological manifestations .
Interaction
Theoretically, with the parallel use of Rogaine solution and peripheral vasodilators, it is possible to intensify existing orthostatic hypotension , but at this time there is no clinical confirmation of this interaction.
In the case of using Rogaine and parallel oral administration of minoxidil for the treatment of arterial hypertension , a slight increase in its serum content is theoretically possible, although relevant clinical studies in this direction have not been carried out.
Prescribing Rogaine solution to patients suffering from arterial hypertension and taking guanethidine or its derivatives is possible only under constant medical supervision.
It has been proven that the solution interacts with some other external (local) drugs. Thus, the combined use of Rogaine and 0.05% cream containing betamethasone led to a decrease in the absorption of minoxidil , and the parallel use of external agents with dithranol and tretinoin , which cause changes in the skin's protective functions, can cause an increase in the absorption of minoxidil .
Reviews of Rogaine
Opinions about this drug, used to treat alopecia (baldness), are divided approximately equally and, in the vast majority of cases, the assessment of this drug comes from representatives of the fair half of humanity. Women's reviews of Rogaine are quite varied. For some, this solution simply became a “savior”, for others it helped stop hair loss , and for others it brought nothing but loss of time and money. Reviews from men about the drug Rogaine are generally no different from the opinions of women and indicate a rather selective effect of this drug.
Overdose
, systemic side effects may occur due to the vasodilating effect of the active ingredient of the drug - minoxidil . It should be remembered that 5 ml of a 2% solution of Rogaine includes 100 mg of minoxidil , which corresponds to the maximum recommended daily dosage of the drug for the treatment of arterial hypertension , and 5 ml of a 5% solution includes 250 mg of minoxidil , which is 2.5 times higher than this dose. Symptoms of oral administration of large doses of minoxidil may include decreased blood pressure , fluid retention , and tachycardia .
In order to eliminate the observed fluid retention diuretics (diuretics) can be prescribed tachycardia can be treated with beta-blockers , and arterial hypotension with intravenous sodium chloride (0.9%). In this situation, the use of sympathomimetic drugs such as Epinephrine or Norepinephrine is inappropriate due to their excessive cardiac stimulating effects.
Rogaine price, where to buy
