When is Vibrocil prescribed?
The drug in any form can be used for the following conditions:
- acute rhinitis, including that which may appear during a cold;
- allergic rhinitis;
- chronic rhinitis;
- acute and chronic sinusitis;
- before nasal surgery;
- after surgery to relieve swelling.
What does Vibrocil help with?
The drug is actively used by adults and children. Depending on the characteristics and age of a person, you can choose the most convenient form for use.
Vibrocil can be taken for the following conditions:
- nasal congestion due to a cold;
- rhinitis;
- if surgical intervention in the nasal cavity is planned, as well as for preventive purposes after surgery;
- painful sneezing;
- otitis;
- to prevent colds in young children.
How to take Vibrocil
Drops
You need to drip your nose 3-4 times a day. For babies under 1 year old, 1 drop will be enough in each nasal passage. For a child aged 2-6 years, drop 2 drops. From 6 years old and adults you can drip 3-4 drops. Before use, rinse the nasal cavity thoroughly. You need to instill drops with your head tilted back. After instillation, you need to maintain this position for a few more seconds. Newborns are given the drug before feeding.
Spray
The drug in the form of a spray is allowed to be used from 6 years of age. You need to do 2 sprays in each nostril. The procedure is carried out no more than 4 times a day.
Ointment
The gel can be given from 6 years of age. It is necessary to treat each nostril as deeply as possible. You can do this procedure up to 4 times a day. If you use the gel in the evening, your nose will breathe freely all night.
Compound
Active substances: phenylephrine 2.5 mg, dimethindene maleate 0.25 mg

Pharmacodynamics
A combination drug containing phenylephrine and dimethindene.
Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic agent; when applied topically, it has a moderate vasoconstrictor effect (due to stimulation of alpha1-adrenergic receptors located in the venous vessels of the nasal mucosa), eliminates swelling of the nasal mucosa and its paranasal sinuses.
Dimetindene is an antiallergic drug - an antagonist of histamine H1 receptors; does not reduce the activity of the ciliated epithelium of the nasal mucosa.
Pharmacokinetics
Vibrocil® is intended for local use; its activity does not depend on the concentration of active substances in the blood plasma.
Indications for the drug Vibrocil®
- acute rhinitis (including runny nose due to colds);
- allergic rhinitis (including hay fever);
- vasomotor rhinitis;
- chronic rhinitis;
- acute and chronic sinusitis;
- acute otitis media (as an auxiliary treatment method);
- preparation for surgical interventions in the nasal area and elimination of swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses after surgical interventions in this area.
Contraindications
- Common to all dosage forms
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
- atrophic rhinitis (including with foul-smelling discharge - ozena);
- taking MAO inhibitors (simultaneously or in the previous 14 days).
- For spray and nasal gel additionally
- children's age (up to 6 years).
With caution: cardiovascular diseases (arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, generalized atherosclerosis), thyroid diseases, angle-closure glaucoma, prostate adenoma, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. As with the use of any local vasoconstrictor, caution should be exercised when prescribing Vibrocil® to patients with severe reactions to sympathomimetics (for example, the development of insomnia and dizziness).
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Given the possible systemic vasoconstrictor effect of phenylephrine, Vibrocil® is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects
Rarely - mild and transient local reactions from the nasal mucosa (burning sensation or dryness).
Interaction
Phenylephrine (as well as other vasoconstrictors) is contraindicated in patients currently receiving MAO inhibitors or who have received them within the previous 2 weeks.
The drug should not be prescribed simultaneously with tricyclic antidepressants or beta-blockers.
Directions for use and doses
Intranasally, the nasal passages should be cleared before administration.
Adults and children over 6 years of age are prescribed 1-2 sprays into each nasal passage 3-4 times a day. When using the spray, the sprayer should be held vertically, with the tip facing up. Keeping your head straight, insert the tip into the nasal passage, squeeze the sprayer once with a short sharp movement, and remove the tip from the nose and unclench it. During spraying, it is recommended to inhale slightly through the nose.
Overdose
Symptoms: When Vibrocil® was accidentally ingested by small children, no serious side effects were observed. In most cases, there were no symptoms of overdose, but sometimes symptoms such as a feeling of fatigue, pain in the stomach, slight tachycardia, arterial hypertension, agitation, insomnia, and pale skin were reported (more often in children with accidental ingestion).
Treatment: administration of activated carbon and laxatives (gastric lavage is not required); or administering large amounts of fluid (children over 6 years of age and adults). There is no specific antidote.
special instructions
Vibrocil® should not be used for more than 1 week without consulting a doctor. Long-term (more than 2 weeks) or excessive use of the drug can cause tachyphylaxis and rebound effect (rhinitis medicamentosa), and lead to the development of a systemic vasoconstrictor effect.
Do not exceed the recommended doses of Vibrocil®. Otherwise, manifestations of the systemic effect of the drug may develop.
For children under 6 years of age, only nasal drops are used.
Vibrocil® in gel form is especially indicated in case of dry nasal mucosa, in the presence of crusts, in the consequences of nasal trauma, as well as to prevent nasal congestion at night.
Vibrocil® does not have a sedative effect (does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions).

Contraindications

How to use Vibrocil spray
Can be used by adults and children over 6 years old. It is enough to make 1-2 sprays into each nasal passage. After the procedure, the nose should be lightly massaged. It must be repeated after at least 6 hours. The course of treatment can last up to 7 days.
The spray is effective for allergic rhinitis and otitis media.
On a note! Athletes who are scheduled to compete should not take this form of the drug, as it can distort the results of a doping test.

The shelf life of the spray is 24 months, ointment and drops are 36 months. It should be kept in a dark place, out of reach of small children, at room temperature.
There is no need to give the drug to newborns and small children without a medical prescription. Adults and adolescents do not need to use the products independently for more than 7 days. In this case, consultation with a specialist is necessary. With prolonged use (more than 14 days), a person may experience tachyphylaxis. Sometimes a systemic vasoconstrictor effect may occur.
There is no need to take the drug in an increased dose, otherwise signs of systemic exposure may develop.

No serious side effects have been reported from casual use of the drug by small children. Most cases were asymptomatic; Very rarely, fatigue, stomach pain, mild tachycardia, increased blood pressure, agitation, insomnia, and pale skin were reported. Treatment: use of activated carbon, laxatives in young children (gastric lavage is not required); Adults and children are prescribed large amounts of liquid to drink.
Analogs
There are no analogues of drops for small children with the same components. If you need to use another drug instead of Vibrocil, you can take Adrianol, which contains the active substance phenylephrine. You can also find cheap analogues with similar effects. These include:

Pharmacological properties of the drug Vibrocil
Vibrocil is a combination drug containing phenylephrine and dimethindene. The drug reduces nasal discharge and helps cleanse the nasal passages without disturbing the physiological functions of the ciliated epithelium and nasal mucosa. Phenylephrine belongs to the sympathomimetic amines. It is used as a nasal decongestant with a moderate vasoconstrictor effect, selectively stimulates α-adrenergic receptors in the cavernous venous tissue of the nasal mucosa. In this way, swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses is quickly and permanently eliminated. Dimetindene, an H1 receptor antagonist, has an antiallergic effect, is effective when used in low doses, and is well tolerated. Vibrocil is applied topically, so its activity does not correlate with the concentration of active substances in the blood plasma. With accidental oral absorption, the bioavailability of phenylephrine decreased and was about 38%, the half-life was about 2.5 hours. The systemic bioavailability of dimethindene after oral administration in solution was about 70%, the half-life was about 6 hours.
Adverse reactions and overdose
Common adverse reactions include itching, burning sensation and irritation. If such symptoms appear, there is no need to stop taking the medicine; they will disappear on their own.
In rare cases, patients begin to worry about the functioning of the heart. Shortness of breath appears, heart rate increases. In this case, you should refuse to take it. In case of complications of symptoms, you should consult a specialist.
In very young children who were given an increased dose, unwanted reactions do not appear. In adolescents and adult patients, an overdose can be manifested by disturbed sleep, abdominal pain, fatigue, and pale skin.
If serious side effects occur, you can switch to an analogue of the drug.
