Pharmacological properties of the drug Gastrolit
Pharmacodynamics. Gastrolit is a drug for the treatment and prevention of dehydration conditions. Restores water-electrolyte balance and core function in the body. The composition includes electrolytes, the loss of which always occurs during diarrhea (Na+, K+, CI‾, HCO3). With timely use of the drug Gastrolit, the occurrence of acidosis and electrolyte disturbances, especially in children, can be prevented. Glucose, which is part of the drug, promotes the absorption of electrolytes and provides the body's basic energy needs. The active substances contained in chamomile extract have antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, chamomile extract normalizes peristalsis and prevents bloating. Pharmacokinetics. After oral administration, glucose is metabolized to CO2 and H2O, and other components are excreted mainly through the kidneys (only a small amount is excreted in sweat and feces).

pharmachologic effect
Gastrolyte is a polyelectrolyte drug for oral rehydration. Contains electrolytes, deficiency of which is often observed in diarrhea in children (Na+, K+, CI-, NSOP-). Timely use of the drug can prevent the occurrence of acidosis and electrolyte imbalance, especially with diarrhea in infants. Glucose, which is part of the drug, is a source that provides the body’s energy needs and also improves the absorption of electrolytes. The active substances contained in chamomile extract have antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Indications for use
Oral rehydration (replenishing fluid in the body) for acute diarrhea accompanied by mild to moderate dehydration (dehydration), and prevention of dehydration. The solution is intended to replenish the loss of water and salts in the body.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The safety and effectiveness of the drug during pregnancy and lactation have not been established. Due to the lack of sufficient data, use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended. There are no data on the effect on fertility.

The drug should be used with caution in patients with arterial hypertension and heart failure, since the drug contains sodium. The drug should not be used by patients with liver disease without a doctor's prescription. Severe dehydration (weight loss <10%, anuria) should be treated first with intravenous rehydration agents. After this, Gastrolit can be used to treat diarrhea. It is necessary to consult a doctor in the following situations that arise during self-treatment with Gastrolit:
- mental status changes (eg, irritability, apathy, lethargy, confusion);
- increase in body temperature more than 39°C
- presence/appearance of blood in the stool;
- incessant vomiting;

Gastrolit contains 0.16 g (4 mmol) of potassium per 200 ml of ready solution (1 sachet of the drug), which must be taken into account in patients with reduced renal function and patients on a diet with limited potassium intake. Gastrolit contains 0.276 g (12 mmol) of sodium per 200 ml of ready solution (1 sachet of the drug), which must be taken into account in patients on a diet with limited sodium intake.
