Operating principle

MICROLAX®:

The effect of the drug is based on the process of peptization (liquefaction of dense feces) - this is a physiological method that promotes bowel movement. Thanks to this, the laxative Microlax® with a high safety profile provides a quick and mild effect for constipation. The effect of these laxatives is physiological, so many drugs can be used for constipation in children and pregnant women.

Oral agents:

Depending on the type of drug and its composition, the effect is primarily on the intestines itself. The mechanism of action of such laxatives is usually associated with a reflex effect on intestinal motility - irritation of mucosal receptors and/or an increase in the volume of contents. The taken drug travels a long way through the stomach and intestines to get to the site of the fecal blockage. In addition, such exposure can increase the risk of developing “lazy gut” syndrome.

Inexpensive analogues of the drug

The product does not have direct substitutes containing the same ingredients. Instead of Microlax, laxatives similar in action are used:

  • Glycerin suppositories;
  • Glycerol;
  • Glykelax;
  • Bisacodyl;
  • Enema wedge;
  • Norgalax;
  • Normacol.

Microlax analogues are also sold in the form of suspensions (Duphalac), tablets, bars, concentrates, teas (Fitolax).

Glycerin suppositories

The drug is available in the form of suppositories. The ingredient is glycerin. Like Microlax, it has a laxative effect. Glycerin suppositories also have a dehydrating effect. After their use, the patient actively fills the stool with water, which speeds up the process of liquefaction and elimination from the intestines.

Produced in Russia. This analogue is indicated for use in various forms of constipation. Suppositories are prescribed to prevent defecation disorders.

Unlike Microlax, this analogue has a wider list of contraindications. In addition to the presence of sensitivity to the drug, it is prohibited to use it for acute hemorrhoids and diarrhea. Proctitis and appendicitis are contraindications to the use of the drug. Prohibited for bleeding, neoplasms in the intestines, and renal failure.

Glycerin suppositories can be prescribed to newborns. The recommended dose of the analogue for adults is 1 suppository once a day. For young children, it is recommended to administer 1/2 suppository rectally once a day.

The average price of glycerin suppositories is 150-180 rubles.

Glycerol

The main substance of the product is glycerin. The drug is available in two forms. The first is in the form of suppositories, the second is in the form of a solution. Glycerin has a laxative and antiseptic effect. Both forms of the analogue are indicated for constipation and anal fissure.

The drug is contraindicated in case of allergies to its components, diarrhea, bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, tumors, acute hemorrhoids, appendicitis. Unlike Microlax, the analogue is not prescribed to patients with diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and liver diseases.

This drug is also characterized by a wide range of side effects such as:

  • dehydration;
  • irritation of the rectal mucosa;
  • itchy skin;
  • nausea with vomiting;
  • strong thirst;
  • headache;
  • arrhythmia.

The analogue should not be used for a long time due to the risk of severe dehydration and hyperglycemic coma.

Glycerin solution is taken at the rate of 2 ml per 1 kg of human body weight. This is one of the cheapest analogues of Microlax, produced in Russia. The drug is safe for pregnant and lactating women. It can be prescribed to newborns from 3 months of age. The cost of the analogue is 11-25 rubles. Suppositories cost an average of 140 rubles.

Glycelax

The drug is produced in Russia and also contains glycerin. Like glycerin, this product can be prescribed to children from 3 months of age. The substitute is available in the form of rectal suppositories. You can use up to two suppositories during the day.

Like other Russian analogues of Microlax, it has a number of contraindications. Glykelax suppositories are prohibited for use in acute hemorrhoids, inflammation and tumors of the anus. The drug can be prescribed for renal failure, but with caution. The drug is not recommended for pregnant and nursing mothers.

This analogue may cause allergic reactions. Its cost in pharmacies ranges from 115 to 155 rubles.

Bisacodyl

The drug is produced both in Russia and in Eastern Europe and Finland. It is sold in both tablet and suppository form. The drug should not be used for intestinal obstruction and intestinal polyposis. Administration of bisacodyl may be associated with colic and flatulence. The drug is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age.

The analogue is harmless for pregnant women, but it can only be taken under the supervision of a medical specialist. The cost of Bisacodyl in Russian pharmacies is on average 47-55 rubles.

Enema Wedge

This drug is not a direct replacement for Microlax. Its main ingredient is sodium dihydrogen phosphate. The drug is sold as a solution for rectal administration. Like Microlax, it has a laxative effect. The drug is indicated for constipation, as well as before undergoing diagnostic tests and abdominal surgeries.

Clinical microclimate enema is contraindicated for intestinal perforation and obstruction, anal fissures, stomach and intestinal ulcers, and acute hemorrhoids. Unlike Microlax, it cannot be prescribed to pregnant women and children.

The drug is used as an enema. When taken orally, 120 ml of the drug is administered rectally, which corresponds to one bottle. An analogue is produced in Pakistan. The price of the drug in Russia is 230 rubles.

Norgalax

The drug is produced in France. Its main ingredient is sodium docusate. This laxative, like Microlax, is available in the form of a rectal gel. It is indicated for constipation, as well as to prepare the patient for colonoscopy.

Norgalax gel is not recommended for use in patients with anal fissures, intestinal obstruction, hemorrhoids, or bleeding around the anus. It is also contraindicated for inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Unlike Microlax, Norgalax cannot be used in children under 15 years of age.

For constipation, use one laxative enema once a day. After using the drug it is possible:

  • rectal irritation;
  • rectal pain and bleeding;
  • digestive disorders;
  • dehydration.

The drug enhances the toxic effect of drugs used with it. Norgalax is more expensive than its Russian analogues Microlax. Its cost in pharmacies is 215-260 rubles.

Normacol

The drug contains sodium dihydrosophate. The composition of the drug is similar to Enema Klin. Normacol is indicated both for the treatment of constipation and for the treatment of mild hemorrhoids. The drug has the same release form as Microclasm Microlax. However, this remedy has several contraindications. Normacol is not recommended for use in cases of intestinal obstruction or heart failure.

Important! The drug should not be used in patients with electrolyte imbalance, as well as in people with dilated colon.

Normacol can cause acidosis and local allergic symptoms. The drug is not recommended for children under 3 years of age. Adults are recommended to consume one microlite in the amount of 130 ml once a day. In children 3-15 years old, the dose is halved.

This drug is the most expensive analogue of Microlax. Its price in some pharmacies can reach 700 rubles. The laxative was produced in France.

Speed of action

MICROLAX®:

5 – 15 minutes

Microlax acts on feces directly in the rectum. The drug begins to act within 5-15 minutes.

Oral medications:

6 – 48 hours (maybe more)

A sufficient amount of time must pass for the remedy to begin to act. The reason for this is that the active components of the drug need to overcome the stomach and intestines before they get directly to the site of constipation in an adult or child.

pharmachologic effect

Manufacturer: Johnson & Johnson, France
Release form: microenema solution (for rectal use)

Active ingredient: sodium citrate + sodium lauryl sulfoacetate + sorbitol

The product refers to a combination drug that has a laxative effect. Each of the presented components has different effectiveness:

  • sodium lauryl sulfoacetate – liquefies masses;
  • sorbitol – enhances the laxative effect.

The effect of taking the drug occurs within 15 minutes. Data regarding pharmacokinetics are not provided.

Method of application

MICROLAX®:

Microlax® is administered rectally and helps facilitate bowel movements. The convenient form makes it easy to introduce the contents of the tube into the rectum, where the active substance (sodium citrate) starts the process of peptization, liquefaction and softening of feces, which leads to a quick and gentle release of the lower intestines.

Oral medications:

Admission is carried out orally. Such drugs are not always convenient for small children or older people to take.

Other analogues
