pharmachologic effect
Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic drug for local (intravaginal) use, active against protozoa, gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, viruses, incl. against Treponema pallidum, Chlamydia spp., Ureaplasma spp., Neisseria gononhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Bacteroides fragilis, Herpes simplex type 2. Some strains of Pseudomonas spp., Proteus spp. are weakly sensitive to the drug, and acid-resistant forms of bacteria and bacterial spores are also resistant. Chlorhexidine does not interfere with the functional activity of lactobacilli.
Indications for use
— prevention of sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes and others); — prevention of infectious and inflammatory complications in obstetrics and gynecology (before surgical treatment of gynecological diseases, before childbirth and abortion, before and after installation of an intrauterine device (IUD), before and after diathermocoagulation of the cervix, before intrauterine examinations); - treatment of bacterial vaginosis, colpitis (including nonspecific, mixed, trichomonas).
Side effects
Extremely rarely (less than 0.1% of cases) allergic reactions and skin itching are possible, which disappear after discontinuation of the drug.
Contraindications

Mode of application
Intravaginally. Having previously freed the suppository from the contour cell packaging, it is inserted into the vagina in a supine position. For treatment: 1 suppository 2 times a day for 7-10 days. If necessary, it is possible to extend the course of treatment to 20 days. For the prevention of sexually transmitted infections: 1 suppository no later than 2 hours after sexual intercourse.

Overdose
Currently, no cases of drug overdose have been reported.
Interaction with other drugs
Concomitant use with iodine-containing drugs is not recommended if they are used intravaginally. Chlorhexidine is not compatible with detergents containing an anionic group (saponins, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose) and soaps if they are administered intravaginally. Contraindications for use

pharmachologic effect
Antiseptic. Chlorhexidine exhibits a bactericidal effect (against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria) - at a temperature of 22°C and exposure for 1 minute; fungicidal effect at a temperature of 22°C and exposure for 10 minutes; virucidal effect (against lipophilic viruses).
It affects bacterial spores only at elevated temperatures. It is stable, after treatment of the skin it remains on it in a certain amount sufficient to exhibit a bactericidal effect. Retains activity (albeit somewhat reduced) in the presence of blood, pus, various secretions and organic substances.
Does not have a damaging effect on objects made of glass, plastic and metals.
Drug interactions
Used in a neutral environment; at pH 5-8 the difference in activity is small; at a pH greater than 8, a precipitate forms.
Do not use in combination with anionic compounds, incl. with soap.
Incompatible with carbonates, chlorides, phosphates, borates, sulfates and citrates.
The use of hard water reduces bactericidal properties.
Compatible with drugs containing a cationic group (benzalkonium chloride, cetrimonium bromide).

Side effect
Allergic reactions:
skin rash, itching, severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

dry skin, itching, dermatitis, photosensitivity.
Local reactions:

For vaginal use:

When used intravaginally, if bloody discharge from the vagina appears, the use of chlorhexidine should be discontinued.
