pharmachologic effect

Epigen Intim is an antiviral and immunostimulating pharmaceutical preparation based on a natural plant component - glycyrrhizic acid , which is obtained by extraction from licorice root. The active component of the drug has a complex therapeutic effect, however, first of all, its pharmacological effects on the immune system should be noted. Glycyrrhizic acid increases the number and activity of T-lymphocytes when applied topically, induces the formation of interferon , increases the concentration of immunoglobulins A and M , but reduces the concentration of IgG.

The mechanism of antiviral action is based on inhibition of replication processes in the early stages, which causes the release of the viral virion from the capsid, preventing its penetration into the cellular structures of the body. In clinical studies, it has been proven that glycyrrhizic acid inactivates herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, herpes zoster virus (Varicella Zoster), cytomegalovirus and some other oncogenic viruses. Its effectiveness has also been confirmed against mutant strains of viruses that, during their life, have developed resistance to Acyclovir and Iodouridine .

Gel for intimate hygiene Epigen has antiviral properties, which are realized through stimulating effects on the cellular and humoral factors of the immune system. The active biological component significantly inhibits the release of kinins and the formation of prostaglandins by connective tissue cells in the pathological focus of inflammation. This is the basis for the regenerating effects of the pharmaceutical drug, manifested in improved repair of the skin and mucous membranes.

Expert opinion

Lyudmila Sheveleva, pharmacist

Epigen is an effective remedy for the treatment of infectious pathologies of the skin and mucous membranes. It is easy to use, safe, and ideal for long-term therapy. During treatment of the genitals, the required pH level is maintained. This acidity level is favorable for beneficial lactic acid bacteria in the vagina. They begin to actively grow and reproduce, stimulating the strengthening of local immunity. And this becomes an excellent prevention of relapses of bacterial and fungal vaginitis.

Indications for use

  • comprehensive prevention of gynecological diseases of viral etiology, sexually transmitted diseases;
  • infectious diseases caused by the human papillomavirus ;
  • erosions and other pathologies of the cervix;
  • treatment and prevention of genital warts ;
  • as part of complex therapy in the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections types 1 and 2;
  • itching, burning, dryness and other unpleasant sensations in the genital area;
  • bacterial vaginosis;
  • herpes zoster and infection with the Varicella Zoster virus ;
  • nonspecific vulvovaginitis;
  • nosological units in which the etiological factor is cytomegalovirus ;
  • insufficiency of ovarian function.

Instructions for use (Method and dosage)

Instructions for Epigen intimate spray

The intimate spray is intended for external, intraurethral and intravaginal use. Before use, be sure to shake the container so that the medicinal solution is evenly distributed inside the container. Directly during use, the cylinder must be kept in an upright position. For external treatment of the skin and genitals, the pharmaceutical drug is applied to the entire pathological focus from a distance of 4-5 cm in 1-2 presses, which corresponds to the optimal dosage.

To administer the drug intravaginally (this is how a spray is used for cervical erosion, for example), a special nozzle with a sprayer is used, which is included in the kit. After placing the atomizer on the balloon instead of the original valve, insert it into the vagina and spray the pharmaceutical drug with 1-2 presses.

Intraurethral use of the spray by men also involves the use of a spray bottle. The drug is injected directly into the external opening of the urethra with 1-2 presses. If external treatment of the genital organs is performed, then the use of a sprayer is not necessary.

Frequency and duration of use of Epigen Intim spray

For herpesvirus infection type 1 and herpes zoster , the drug is used 6 times a day by applying directly to the pathological focus. The duration of drug treatment is usually 5 days, however, if the disease persists, therapy should be continued until all symptoms disappear completely.

For infection with herpes virus type 2 and cytomegalovirus infection, the drug is used 5 times a day for 14 days. It is recommended to combine external and intravaginal use of the drug. After the elimination of acute symptoms, active prevention of a recurrent course should be carried out by external and intravaginal use of the spray 3 times a day for 10 days.

In case of papillomavirus infection, treatment with a pharmaceutical drug is carried out through surgical procedures. Before removing condylomas, etiotropic therapy involves applying the spray three times throughout the day. Against the background of destruction (the method of surgical intervention is not taken into account), the drug is used five times for 10 days or more. The criterion for completing medicinal sanitation is complete healing of the pathological focus. In order to prevent immediate relapses, the spray is applied 3 times a day for 1 month.

In the long-term prevention of human papillomavirus infection, the use of a pharmaceutical drug is determined by the appearance of various provoking factors, which can be stress, respiratory viral diseases, taking antibiotics or cytostatics, microflora disturbances, and prolonged fatigue. The drug is used before and after sexual intercourse or 3 times a day during the entire period of influence of external factors of aggression.

Epigen spray for thrush , vulvovaginal candidiasis, nonspecific vulvovaginitis or its bacterial etiology is used intravaginally 3-4 times a day for 7-10 days. The therapeutic course should be repeated after 10 days, since the causative agents of these pathological conditions are able to avoid the influence of the pharmaceutical drug due to individual characteristics.

If any provoking factors appear (see above), then the thrush spray is applied 3 times a day externally and intravaginally until the harmful factors cease their effect.

The spray during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be used according to standard conservative therapy regimens, since the pharmaceutical drug is intended for local action on pathological microflora and enters the systemic bloodstream only in trace concentrations, which does not have an adverse effect on the body of the child or mother.

Instructions for Epigen gel

As a rule, the cream is used for intimate hygiene , and not for therapeutic purposes. The method of using it is to apply it externally to the genitals, after which it should be foamed and rinsed thoroughly with warm running water. The natural ingredients in the base of the cosmetic product allow you to repeat the procedure several times a day.

The gel can also be used for prevention against thrush , since glycyrrhizic acid normalizes the acidity of the intimate areas, cleanses the skin and maintains the natural microflora of the mucous membranes of the genital organs. Daily use of intimate hygiene gel helps prevent damage by fungal cultures and avoid the very unpleasant discomfort associated with the problem of thrush.

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of Epigen Intim is activated glycyrrhizic acid, obtained by extraction from plant materials (licorice root). The immunostimulating effect is manifested by an increase in the number and activity of T-lymphocytes, a decrease in the concentration of Ig G and an increase in the concentration of Ig A and M. Activated glycyrrhizic acid significantly inhibits the release of kinins and the synthesis of PG by connective tissue cells in the area of inflammation. The regenerating effect is due to improved repair of the skin and mucous membranes. The anti-inflammatory activity of activated glycyrrhizic acid is combined with a stimulating effect on humoral and cellular immunity factors. Activated glycyrrhizic acid induces the formation of interferon, which is one of the components of its antiviral action. Activated glycyrrhizic acid has an antiviral effect on various types of DNA and RNA viruses in vitro and in vivo (Varicella Zoster; herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2; cytomegalovirus, various types of human papillomavirus, including oncogenic ones). Activated glycyrrhizic acid interrupts the replication of viruses in the early stages, causes the virion to exit the capsid, thereby preventing its penetration into cells. Activated glycyrrhizic acid inactivates these viruses in concentrations that are non-toxic for normally functioning cells. Mutant strains of viruses resistant to acyclovir and iodouridine are also highly sensitive to glycyrrhizic acid, like non-mutant strains.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied externally and locally, activated glycyrrhizic acid is deposited in the lesions. Systemic absorption occurs slowly. The drug is found in the blood in trace amounts.

Analogs of Epigen Intim spray are presented in various pharmaceutical forms from tablets for oral use to granules for preparing a medicinal solution. If there are contraindications to Epigen spray, Glyciram , Glycyrrhizic acid or Epigen Labial are prescribed. The price of analogues of the Epigen intimate spray at licensed points of sale is, as a rule, lower, but the effectiveness of such therapeutic agents is relative, because they realize their beneficial properties indirectly, unlike a spray that acts directly on the pathological focus of the disease.

Epigen intimate gel also has its analogues on the pharmaceutical market, but the proven therapeutic properties of the licorice root extract and effects such as normalizing acidity and maintaining the physiological level of microflora of the genital organs predispose you to choose Epigen gel.

Analogs

In the assortment of pharmacies there are no analogues of Epigen identical in composition. Sometimes patients exhibit hypersensitivity to its ingredients. In such cases, they are usually prescribed any cheaper hygiene product with lactic acid. Treatment can be supplemented with ointments with antiviral activity, for example, Acyclovir or Zovirax.

Reviews about Epigen

Reviews of Epigen Intim spray characterize the pharmaceutical drug on the positive side. Patients with various infectious diseases of viral etiology recommend the drug on thematic forums and Internet resources, because the spray allows you to eliminate the pathological focus of the nosological unit and normalize the functioning of the genital organs and skin. For thrush, the medicine allows you not only to get rid of unpleasant discomfort and odor, but also to avoid this problem in the future, since the intimate gel effectively prevents this disease.

The anti-condylomas spray, in combination with surgical treatment, completely neutralizes the human papillomavirus, which ensures rapid healing of the skin defect and the fight against further relapses. The spray for HPV activates the humoral and cellular immunity, allowing you to further recognize the structure of the pathological agent and eliminate possible re-infection.

The pharmaceutical drug also helps with bacterial and nonspecific inflammatory diseases of the genital organs. An intimate spray allows you to maintain a physiological level of acidity, providing a feeling of cleanliness and freshness. Thanks to the drug Epigen intimate, the genital area of both partners is protected from unpleasant consequences in the form of irritation, redness or other natural reactions.

Reviews from doctors are based primarily on the pharmacological effects and duration of the course of conservative therapy. Both indicators of a drug in the form of a spray allow us to give professional and qualified preference, based on reliable clinical studies, to this drug. On thematic resources, some medical professionals even openly admit about the independent use of Epigen Intim, which cannot but tip the scales in favor of the medicinal spray.

Separately, it should be noted reviews of Epigen Intim gel, which is often used incorrectly. The cream is designed to keep the genitals clean during daily intimate hygiene, unlike a spray. Of course, both pharmaceutical forms of the drug are based on licorice root extract, but the gel has a milder effect. The absence of soap and some other auxiliary components allows the gel to be used exclusively for cosmetic purposes.

This dosage form receives good recommendations from women who are carrying a child. Gel during pregnancy allows you to avoid a large number of aesthetic consequences of this physiological process, caused by changes in hormonal levels and some other features of the female body. The chemical formula of Epigen cream is specially designed for daily care, which in practice is manifested by the absence of dryness and various types of irritation after its use.

The price of the intimate gel is indicated below, but it is worth noting that among hygiene products it is the best, because it contains a plant with therapeutic properties. Licorice root has long been used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes, which creates a certain level of trust in this pharmaceutical drug, which is why women tend to choose an experienced method of daily intimate hygiene.

Pharmacological properties

Ammonium glycyrrhizinate, isolated from licorice, determines the high therapeutic effectiveness of Epigen. After it penetrates the mucous membranes and skin, it comes into contact with the outer shell of the virus. Such an effect leads to inhibition of the replication of infectious pathogens in the early stages. The virion loses its ability to penetrate the cells of the human body with their further destruction.

Ammonium glycyrrhizinate exhibits antiviral activity against the following infectious agents:

  • herpes simplex viruses;
  • papillomaviruses;
  • cytomegaloviruses;
  • Varicella Zoster viruses;
  • mutated viruses resistant to other antiviral drugs;
  • certain strains of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria;
  • yeast-like fungi.

Bacteria, viruses and fungi that the drug fights.
The active ingredient of Epigen stimulates the production of lymphocytes to destroy viruses, bacteria, and fungi. It helps strengthen local immunity and increase the body's defenses against negative factors. During the treatment, there is also an acceleration of regeneration due to improved blood circulation.

Epigen Intim price, where to buy

The pharmaceutical drug cannot be classified as cheap, but the evidence of therapeutic effects and production in Spain is really worth the money. In the Russian Federation, the price of Epigen Intim spray starts at 600 rubles - for such a minimum price a 15 ml bottle is purchased. You can buy a spray in a 60 ml bottle for between 1100 and 1500 rubles - this form of the drug may be required, for example, for thrush due to a decrease in the body’s own immune parameters. In St. Petersburg, the drug is distributed by the Ozerki Pharmacy - intimate hygiene gel can be purchased from the distributor for an average of 650 rubles.

The price of Epigen intimate spray in other post-Soviet countries may vary not only from the form and quantity of the drug, but also from the place of purchase, since some pharmacy chains enter into individual contracts with foreign suppliers. Ukraine demonstrates this situation: in first place is Dnepropetrovsk, where a 60 ml cylinder can be purchased for 400 hryvnia. Next comes Kharkov - the price of a spray for intimate hygiene is 460-480 hryvnia, and you can buy a spray in Kyiv for 500 hryvnia. The price of Epigen Intim gel is the same throughout almost the entire country and is about 300-350 hryvnia.

In Belarus, a medicinal spray with a capacity of 15 ml can be purchased for 370,000 BYN. rubles The price of intimate hygiene gel is almost 2 times less and in Minsk is about 170,000 BYN. rubles Such a large difference in the cost of various pharmaceutical forms of Epigen Intim is justified by the scope of application, because the gel is used mainly for everyday hygiene procedures, and the spray is prescribed for therapeutic purposes by qualified medical specialists.
